"It's not just for four years, it's for life"
A fraternity or sorority is a group of men or women bound by a common
brotherhood or sisterhood and a sense of purpose.

Being Greek is much more than wearing the letters, attending meetings, and going to parties. It is about making a friendship that will last you beyond your college years. Brothers and Sisters are there to help you make your transition through college fun and memorable. You will be challenged as a student, a leader, and a person, and the diversity within NJIT’s Greek community ensures that there is a fraternity or sorority that is right for you.

When you are a sister of a sorority, you are a sister for life. No matter what, you will always have the reputation, trust, and support of your sisters and sorority wherever you go.

The Four Pillars of Greek Life
Four pillars guide fraternities and sororities of NJIT: Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Friendship. These values provide as guides to becoming a stronger individual for your organization.

-SCHOLARSHIP-
Fraternities were primarily founded to help you in your education. A significantly higher percentage of Greek students graduate than do non-Greek students. The fraternities and sororities offer many academic assistance programs including tutoring from older members with experience in the classes you are taking. In addition, NJIT also has a chapter of the Order of Omega, a national Greek honor society which recognizes Greek students for excellence in leadership and scholarship. The Order of Omega also offers an annual scholarship for the Associate Member with the highest GPA.

-SERVICE-
The Greek community is heavily involved in community service on both the local and national levels. Members actively participate in campus Blood Drives and Habitat for Humanity. Working together our Greek members raise thousands of dollars and donate thousands of hours to help support many different philanthropies both in the local community and on a national level. Performing community service helps each member to grow into a more caring human being, and to build pride and moral character.

-LEADERSHIP-
In joining a fraternity or sorority at NJIT, you are opening the door to the
leadership skills within yourself that will help you prepare for your career and
life. Leadership positions within your chosen organization and within the entire community are open to all members of a Greek organization. From this you will gain confidence in yourself and in your abilities as a leader. Greek students hold offices in nearly every major student organization on campus including the Student Senate, the Graduate Student Association, and the Student Activities Council, as well as holding important jobs such as residence assistants and Campus Center managers. In these highly visible and established positions Greeks take as active part in shaping the NJIT campus and community. The Greek community is looking for members that will be active in their organizations and on campus.

-FRIENDSHIP-
Fraternity and sorority members enjoy a special type of relationship. Each
member shares their experiences, hopes, successes, and failures with their
brothers or sisters. This friendship, brotherhood and sisterhood) means working together to reach a common goal and to help each other reach their full potential.

What are the requirements for going greek?
Both Sigma Psi Kappa as well as NJIT has a GPA requirement in order to join a Greek organization. The overall NJIT GPA requirement to go greek is anything on or above a 2.3. However, Sigma Psi Kappa only strives for the best, and requires a 2.4 or higher GPA requirement in order for you to become an associate member and an active sister.

Upperclassmen may participate in the Associate Membership process (what we call pledging) during the Fall and Spring semesters. While recruitment events are open to all interested women, freshmen are not permitted by NJIT to participate in Associate Membership until the Spring.

No Matter the Letter, We All Stand Together
If you feel that Sigma Psi Kappa just isn't for you, then perhaps another sorority on campus will best fit your ideals and goals. Either way, considering going Greek can benefit you greatly in the future through the friends and connections you make being in a Greek organization!
